Susana Ramírez

Susana is above all else a mother of a young man with autism, Kevin. She is the founder and Executive Director of Padres en Acción. Susana also works as a Special Education Advocate with Disability Rights Oregon, representing students with disabilities in the school system. Susana was appointed by President Obama to the President's Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities in 2011 and 2014. She also conducts trainings for Spanish speaking parents about special education law and leadership development. She believes that access to a quality education is a human right.

Rosa María   Rosa María is a parent leader with Padres en Acción in Corvallis. He has a son with autism. Rosa María's active advocacy in the school system started as many parents do - when she realized how much more she needed to learn about special education law in order to truly exercise her rights and that of her son. In the last four years Rosa María has mentored and helped many parents new to the advocacy community. She has presented in various conferences statewide, always sharing with other parents how when they believe in themselves they become the best advocates of their children.

Kevin Burns   Kevin is the person who started Parents in Action's advocacy movement with his mom Susana. He lives in his own home in Eugene where he also works as an administrative assistant at the Lane County Courthouse. As his brother Patrick wrote on his final high school essay before leaving for college: "I had no idea how much muy brother Kevin would teach me about perseverance, tolerance and unconditional love over the next ten years of our lives". Kevin often times tells people who get to know him well - "My life, my choice". His passion is family, maps, bridges, his native San Francisco and traveling to the Bay Area every year to revisit his roots.
